STRUGGLING WITH CYSTIC ACNE IN YOUR 20s

French Pharmacy Skincare Routine for Acne prone Skin

DEALING WITH ADULT ACNE

In my 20s, my skin has basically a never-ending rollercoaster and I know that it's only the beginning. I've really taken this time of being isolated and not going to work everyday (aka not wearing makeup) to really figure out my skin and what the right routine is for me.
And by that I mean watching way too many skincare videos on YouTube, googling what the best skincare products are, the ingredients to avoid and honestly, it's just very confusing.

Two years ago is when I started having regular cystic acne and hormonal breakouts. It was still quite mild compared to what my skin has been through more recently. Back in March, my skin really exploded and I was having horrible breakouts, probably the worst I've ever had and although now they're not as bad anymore, I still have really bad scars and pigmentation. I'm not 100% sure what the cause was but I think it was mainly stress, everything revolving this pandemic and the changes that had to happen stressed me out and my cortisol levels just skyrocketed.

Coming back to France, I really had to pick the skincare products I wanted to pack (also I knew I would buy some here) and really kept it simple. The key for me was to not overdo it and risk damaging my skin even more.

My Current French Pharmacy Skincare Routine

A lot of the skincare products I use are from the French pharmacy. Ever since I was 15, even when I would just use micellar water, it's been the only place I fully trust. A lot of people rave about French pharmacy products and I can tell you that the hype is real. I have repurchased some of these like 10 times in the past few years.

Bioderma Sebium Face Wash  : I have been using this facewash for the past two years and it has completely changed my life. It controls the oil production perfectly and doesn't strip your skin at all!

The Ordinary Niacinamide + Zinc: After reading countless reviews on this product, I figured it would be a good one to help with scars, and although it took me a while to see results, using this everyday has really made a difference.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid : Hyaluronic Acid is one of the most hydrating skincare ingredients out there. Applying this under a moisturizer will give you 10 times more hydration.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo : A holy grail for those who struggle with clogged pores, congestion, scarring. 10/10 would recommend!

Avène Cicalfate : A rich formula that will help with scarring, whether it's on your face or your body. Apply this at night and really let your skin soak it in.

On the Hunt for the Perfect Skincare Routine

Right now, I'm looking for the perfect AHA exfoliant that will probably solve my scarring issue but the skincare market is so massive that it's tough to know what would actually work for me. The last thing I want is to damage my skin even more.
I've been watching Susan Yara and Hyram a lot on YouTube. They're perfect at explaining what products work for different types of skin and what the right steps are when it comes to skincare. It's also a really entertaining yet informative way to kill time.

It's also important to know that you can consult someone if your issues persist. Consult a dermatologist or book a session with skin consultants. If you live in London, Lion/ne do personalized consultations, they help you understand what your skin type is and what the right skincare products for you are. When I go back to London, I know I am 100% going to pay them a visit!
